Harry Patch, Radiohead and Show Business

Harry Patch, the last veteran of the British army that fought on the Western Front in the First World War will be buried tomorrow; the service will be at Wells Cathedral. He survived the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 and outlived two wives and both of his sons. He described the Act of Remembrance on November 11 as show business; Sep 22 was his remembrance day - the date he lost 3 of his friends and injury meant he came home.

Inspired by an interview he did with Mike Thomson for the BBC in 2005, Thom Yorke of Radiohead has written a song in memory of Harry Patch. Available to purchase on download, all proceeds go to the Royal British Legion. Hear the song and read the lyrics here.

Wonder what Harry would have made of it all?
