I caught up with a podcast from Rob Bell's Church - Mars Hill. Through Lent, they are going through the book of Lamentations. Nice quote while describing the relentlessly bleak first chapter and its lack of solution or happy ending: "I have Depeche Mode albums; I don't need this".
To do justice to the address, he goes on to emphasise the importance of lament - expressing anger, despair and distress without someone stepping in with an instant happiness solution that just doesn't tally. Interesting theory that rap might be lament for young African-American teenagers in the US.
