Quite enjoy dropping in occasionally on a website called beyondrelevance. They are the people who produced the Starbucks-church parody video. Saw this interesting article, using an analogy between church and gas (petrol) stations. The point behind it being that churches often assume they have a response to a need which isn't actually there, and no response to the need that is there.
Of course, it begs the question as to whether churches are fundamentally about meeting needs at all, or whether their key purpose is something else.
