Social Cohesion

Heard a report on the BBC Radio 4 news this morning about the surge in baptisms of older children in the Roman Catholic Church. The reason is believed to be the desire of parents to get their kids into Catholic schools. One of the criticisms of parents quoted was that this was damaging social cohesion.

I can see that a crtiticism might be that parents are being a) opportunist, b) cynical or c) hypocritical. Can't quite join up the dots to make baptism damaging to social cohesion, though. I have this suspicion that there are other factors and practices that are causing much more damage, but then I may be a biased and naive Christian.
