Totally failed in keeping any discipline in Lent blogging, which shows how hard it is. However, this week has prompted thought about bereavement.
Something I said to the Christian Union folks was that we shouldn't be in too much of a hurry to stop feeling sad. Christians get tempted to feel that they should be cheering up much more quickly than they do, which can lead to guilt. Of course, Scripture is well-stocked with prolonged sadness, mourning and lament, which shows how silly that instinct really is.
This week Dave's death has left a lot of us sad, yet also trusting in resurrection. I see no reason why you can't believe the latter and yet still feel the former very profoundly.
